Do you every get in to a fashion rut? I do! I have had so many people say to me, after hearing that I have 8 children, “You look so…… put together!” I was a little taken back by that comment the first time someone said it to me. I finally figured out that it is assumed that if you have more than a couple of children you must look pretty frazzled. Right? I have never been one of those women in favor of going around the house in sweatpants all day and only fixing yourself up if you are going out somewhere. My priority is to look nice for my husband, not to make public appearance so much of a priority. So here are my 4 quick style tips to help you look put together.
1. Have a few coordinating outfits that look nice, are comfortable and are suitable for wearing at home or in public. I would rather spend a little more and get something I love. If you have been visiting my blog for long at all, you probably already know that I love Maurice’s. I don’t have a lot of difference between my every day outfits and my Sunday outfits. Most of the things I wear to church I can wear every day, too. I don’t believe in having a pile of dress clothes that are so nice I never wear them. (However, I do have a few special occasion dresses.)
2. Find some extremely comfortable, cute shoes that go with everything. As a mom of 8, I spend a LOT of time on my feet every day. Comfortable shoes make a big difference. I am a huge fan of Converse sneakers. They are comfortable and stylish for wearing with pants or skirts. I also love my cowboy boots. Not cheap boots, the real thing. My Justin’s are 6 years old and are a wardrobe staple!
See? Lol! I didn’t even last long when I was in a wedding without my favorite boots! (One of my other wardrobe staples is a denim jacket!)
3. Establish an every – morning hair and makeup routine. A lot of people think that long hair is a lot of work, but my morning hair routine takes about 1 minute. Really. Now that I have bangs it takes 30 seconds longer than it use to. When I get out of the shower, I scrunch with with gel and put a flexi in it. If it is a warm day and I’m going to wear it up, I skip the gel part. I also have a quick makeup routine that I do every day – unless I am sick or unusually exhausted. If I skip it, the kids usually take one look at me and ask me if I am sick. Lol! Wearing eye shadow that coordinates with your outfit really adds to the ‘ put together ‘ look for the day. Or if you prefer to be more simplistic, find a color that goes well with your eyes and wear the same one every day.
I might be a bit of an accessory queen. I love all of them – scarves, purses, jewelry, hair accessories and nail wraps ! You can read my post about accessorizing a denim skirt here , but these same principles pretty much apply to everything I wear. I have to say my two top favorite accessories are flexi clips and nail wraps . I promise not to turn this in to a product review, though, so if you want to look at those for yourself, you can click on the links or read my Jamberry review on Adornabelle here. Those are the two things I almost never go without in my wardrobe – and are both quick and easy, which is essential for me. And when I can coordinate both of those with my outfit…. even better!
An important part of every outfit is a focal point. I often use an accessory (such as a scarf in the picture below) to do this. Another way I might do this is by adding some kind of color pop to what I am wearing.
This outfit made a big color pop because of my baby belly. In the middle of the winter, I was really needing some color after a long winter! This outfit helped brighten my day a little bit. I used a camisole that matched my jewelry in this case. It was comfortable and quick.
So there you have it – my 4 quick tips to help you look put together. You don’t have to spend forever fixing yourself up every day, but these are a few ways to help make an effort with your appearance each day when you’re at home with your family. I find that having a morning Mommy routine of fixing up helps me FEEL put together each day and motivates me to get things done. I would love to hear what things you do to make you feel put together every day!
